Police link murders to 15-year-old cases

Posted on 19 May 2008

SHAH ALAM: Two people have been detained over the murder of a real estate agent and an information technology consultant whose bodies were found in a river in Kuala Selangor recently.

And police are tracking down the remaining four members of this gang. They are also sifting through the files to study reports of similar crimes which occurred in Selangor almost 15 years ago.

At that time, a group of teenagers, including a girl, was nabbed and charged with manslaughter.

While under the influence of drugs, the gang had preyed on victims who came out of pubs or restaurants.

They would abduct the victim, rob him and force him to reveal his bank card (ATM) number before murdering the victim and dumping the body in rivers or garbage dumps.
The gang members did it to sustain their drug habit and their victims were chosen at random.

Police at that time believed that the gang was responsible for at least four murders but there was insufficient evidence to charge them in all the cases.

Several of the gang members pleaded guilty to manslaughter while the rest were held under preventive laws.

It is believed that the gang members had served their time and had been released.

On May 1 and 2, the bodies of Kuek Jee Yuen, 51, and Choo Ching, 33, were found in a river in Kuala Selangor, some 5km apart.

Both men had been severely beaten up.

Kuek went missing on April 24 after a business meeting. His body was identified through DNA tests.

Choo went missing on April 29. He was last seen having drinks with several friends. His body was also identified through DNA tests.

In both cases, the victims’ ATM cards had been used to make cash withdrawals.

Choo’s credit card had also been used although the transaction failed because the signatures did not match. Their vehicles have not been found.

The four gang members who are at large are believed to be from the service industry.

They have not reported for work for some time now. The suspected mastermind of the gang is among the four. They are in their 30s.

Among the suspects is a woman who is the girlfriend of one of the suspects currently in police custody.

The four have previous convictions for robbery.
