GEORGE TOWN: The husband of the disabled woman detained in Pakistan on drugs charges said he hoped the government would help him to obtain her release.
Jaafar Noor said his 43-year-old wife, Siti Aisyah Hamid, who was being held at the Women’s Detention Centre (WDC) in Karachi, was innocent.
The 43-year-old, who runs a sundry shop in Kangar, Perlis, said someone had taken advantage of his wife’s weakness and tricked her into carrying the drugs.
“I hope the government can take swift action to free Aisyah. We just want to live happily together like before,” he said at his mother’s home in Permatang Damar Laut, Bayan Lepas, yesterday.
Siti Aisyah, who has suffered from a bone disease since birth, was arrested at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on April 27 for attempting to smuggle 950gm of heroin out of the country in her make-up bag.
On April 7, she had told her husband that she had won an all- expenses paid holiday to Singapore for two weeks. She had received a short message informing her of her win.
Jaafar said he wanted to go to Karachi even though his wife had told him not to because it would cost too much money.
“I’m willing to sacrifice anything, even if I have to pawn all my property. I just want to see my wife. I’m worried about her health. She suffers from the bone problem which requires intensive treatment.
“What does money mean if my heart is not at ease? The most important thing now is to see her and give her moral support.”
He said he yearned for his wife and had lost his appetite.
“I think of her every second. I’m worried her condition may deteriorate. I know this because I have been caring for her for the past seven years.”
