SLIM RIVER: A man died and the driver was critically injured when a Butterworth-Kuala Lumpur express bus carrying 26 people turned turtle and landed in a ditch on the North-South Expressway near here.
The rest of the 25 passengers were also injured in the 4.13pm incident on Wednesday that occurred at the 384th kilometre of the expressway, near Behrang.
The yet-to-be identified man was trapped at the back of the bus and The Fire and Rescue Department personnel had to extricate his body from the smashed vehicle.
Bus driver Abdul Manaf Hamid, 44, was critically injured and was rushed the Slim River Hospital.
The impact of the crash ripped of the entire roof of the Super Nice bus, which had 32 outstanding summonses issued against it.
Tanjung Malim OCPD Superintendent Mohd Ali Mat Nayan said that initial investigations showed that the driver had lost control of the vehicle.
“However, we cannot confirm the cause of the accident as we have yet to record statements from the driver,” he said.
“The driver also had summonses issued against him but they had all been settled,” he said.
