A MALAY father has received numerous compliments from relatives and friends for choosing a traditional Chinese wedding card for his daughter who is getting married, reported Nanyang Siang Pau.
Some of the guests even said they would follow what he did.
Jamadi Abd Aziz, the 58-year-old village head of Bukit Kangkar in Johor, sent out the cards to his Chinese guests inviting them to his daughter Norharyati’s wedding dinner last Saturday.
Jamadi said he has friends of all races and of the 3,000 invited guests, more than 200 were his Chinese neighbours and good friends.
He said the red colour invitation card, printed in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and English, was a gesture to show his sincerity.
“As a village chief, I have the responsibility to promote good friendship and communication between the people here.
“The printing company’s boss helped me with the Chinese words on the card,” he said.
Norharyati, a 30-year-old accountant, said she and her army husband Mohd Nazali, 35, would take their wedding photo wearing traditional costumes of the Chinese, Indians, Koreans and Japanese.
