KEDAH snapped Kelantan’s unbeaten run in Group A of the Ministry of Education Football League Under-17 competition with a come-from-behind 2-1 win.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Kelantan as the defeat was inflicted at their own Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Baru.
“It was just not our day,” said Kelantan coach Mohd Redzuan Daud.
Nonetheless, Kelantan still top the group at the end of the first round with 15 points with Sabah second on 10, and Kedah third with nine.
According to Redzuan, the two-week break for the recent school holidays, affected the team’s preparations as the players were involved in the Malaysian Schools (MSSM) Under-18 and Under-15 tournaments.
In the Under-18 event held in Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan finished runners-up while in the Under-15 tournament in Sungei Petani, they finished third.
And the weekend got from bad to worse for Kelantan when their Under-14 side lost 1-0 to Kedah in a Group A match.
In other Under-18 Group A matches, Penang whipped Perak 6-2 away, while Perlis came out 2-0 winners over KL also away.
In Group B, Malacca upset Johor 4-1, Negri Sembilan edged Pahang 3-2 and Terengganu beat Selangor 2-1.
In the Under-14 competition in Group A, Perak battled to a 1-1 draw against Penang while KL downed Perlis 3-2.
