KUALA LUMPUR: More than 20 people have been called up by the police to have their statements recorded in connection with the report lodged by former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan who claimed he had been sodomised by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar refused to say if any well known figures had given their statements however he said Anwar would be called up to have his statement taken in due time.
Ismail also refused to reveal how many more people would be called up to have their statements recorded.
He said police were still investigating the statutory declarations made by private investigator P. Balasubramaniam and a police report lodged by his nephew that he was missing.
“All these cases are still under investigation and we warn the public and any parties that have any interest in the case to not speculate or give assumptions without any concrete proof or be influenced emotionally.
“Anyone found spreading false information and speculating to the point that it affects public safety will face severe action by the police force,” Ismail said at the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters on Friday.
He urged anyone with information regarding the sodomy or statutory declaration cases to come forward to assist police in their investigations.
