SUNGAI BULOH: Residents of 12 double-storey terrace houses in Sungai Buloh Country Resort have been ordered to vacate their homes today to allow reinforcement of the unstable slope behind their homes.
This was the decision reached by the Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) after a meeting with project developer Glomac Bhd, the Public Works Department (PWD) and police yesterday.
The council has prepared free lodging in its fully furnished staff quarters in Kuala Selangor.
The residents will be able to return home as soon as the immediate reinforcement work is done, which is expected to take a week.
MDKS secretary Azahari Sairin said a notice of evacuation was issued to the residents of Phase Four, Jalan Melor 1/5, on Wednesday.
“The notice was a precautionary measure so they are ready to move out.”
Nine families had been notified while three others could not be reached as they were away, he said.
“We have also discussed the safety measures. The council will set up an action unit and issue temporary identification cards to the residents.
“The police will patrol the area regularly during their absence.”
The PWD has asked the developer’s consultant to submit a report on the long-term plans to restore the structure and condition of the slope.
Glomac managing director Herbert Leong said the report by its technical team would be submitted in two days.
The immediate measures to shore up the slope include building a two-layer, two-metre high gabion wall filled with rocks along the back lane to prevent soil and rocks from hitting the houses, he said.
As part of the long-term plan, the developer will repair the cracked retaining wall.
Asked why the retaining wall was only built half way and not along the entire back lane nearest to the slope, Leong said it was built more than six years ago according to their consultant’s advice. Most of the hill is solid rock.
“But, we will now have to re-evaluate the condition to see what needs to be done,” he added.
