JOHOR BARU: Police have seized an array of deadly weapons, including 87 Samurai swords and three crossbows, which were on sale at a hypermarket car park.
Five suspects, including four foreigners, were arrested on Jan 5. Police believe the weapons were brought into the country from overseas.
Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said a team of policemen was dispatched to the scene at 4.40pm that day following a tip-off.
“We arrested four men aged between 25 and 45 who were selling the dangerous items,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters Tuesday.
DCP Mohd Mokhtar said that while police were conducting investigations a 48-year-old man arrived on the scene and admitted that the goods were his.
Among the items seized were 87 Samurai swords, three crossbows with 200 ball bearings and 63 arrows, seven batons, five knives, five parangs (machetes) and five nunchakus.
DCP Mohd Mokhtar confirmed the men were on remand until Thursday, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, Section 8 of the Weapons Act 1960 and Sec 39 (b) of the Immigration Rules 1959/63.
