BACHOK, Sat:
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today said the Barisan Nasional (BN) should contest the Penanti state seat in Penang.
He regarded the action by the BN in not deciding yet on whether or not to contest the seat as adopting a defensive attitude.
“Until today, it is positive for PAS based on our victory in Permatang Pauh, Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang.
“This has become a nightmare for Umno and they are uncertain whether to contest in Penanti or not,” he told reporters after opening the Bachok PAS divisional meeting in Badak here today.
On the idea of a BN-PAS unity government, Abdul Hadi said discussions on the matter had to be deferred with the change in the country’s leadership.
He refuted an allegation that he retracted the suggestion for a unity government to safeguard his interests in PAS and that of his presidency at the coming party elections.
On the possibility of him being challenged at the PAS general assembly in June, Abdul Hadi said he would not campaign to be retained as the party president.
It would be up to PAS members to decide who they want as their president, he added. – BERNAMA
