Police recover bodies of all 7 workers in Jaya Supermarket collapse (Update 2)

PETALING JAYA: Bodies of all seven workers trapped in the rubble of the collapsed Jaya Supermaket here have been recovered.

The last three were pulled out Saturday, said Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed.

However, the last two bodies were not identified as the remains were too shattered and police would wait for the Indonesian embassy to help with possible DNA identification, he said.

With the recovery of the seven bodies, search and rescue ended at about 5pm.

On Thursday, the five-storey portion of the supermarket building collapsed right to the basement, where the car park was located, during demolition work.

Housing and Local Government MInister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha had announced on Friday that a task force comprising local council, police and Fire and Rescue Department would be formed to probe the collapse.
