POLICE recaptured another inmate who escaped from the Kampung Selamat drug rehabilitation centre during a riot last Friday night.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department Chief SAC II Wan Abdullah Tunku Said said the man was arrested in Kubang Semang here early today.
Police also arrested two villagers for harbouring the inmate.
With the latest arrest, police have recaptured 11 escapees and are hunting for 16 more.
“The three men in their 30s were arrested at about 3am,” he told reporters after opening an anti-crime programme here today.
He said the inmate would be remanded to facilitate investigations into the riot while the two villages would also be remanded for harbouring an escapee.
Wan Abdullah said police would continue tracking the remaining escapees but were facing problems as their records and photographs were destroy in the fire which broke out during the riot.
He urged members of the public not to harbour the escapees.
In the 6.40pm incident, a group of inmates staged a riot and torched three blocks of the centre.
The centre has 522 inmates. Yesterday, 350 of them were transferred to several centres nearby. – BERNAMA
