KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor will only get RM1 worth of advice from newly appointed economic adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“This is a fantastic economic adviser because he almost brought Malaysia to its knees during the (1997-1999) Asian financial crisis,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said Anwar, who was the finance minister during the Asian financial crisis of the 1990s, adopted International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies and made matters worse.
He claimed his former second-in-command knows nothing about the economy.
“He’s a good speaker, yes, but not about the economy,” he told reporters after a giving a talk yesterday on “Asia and the 21st Century” organised by University Malaya’s Asia-Europe Institute.
He was asked to comment on Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s move to appoint Anwar as the state economic adviser with a fixed monthly allowance of RM1.
“If you want to bankrupt Selangor, I think that’s a good adviser,” Dr Mahathir said.

Sometime i wonder is Dr M for real or not? These days i know he is fighting to get popular so that he can maintain himself in the best possible lifestyle.
It is true what Dr.M said Anwar really can talk ONLY. So far he has yet to prove Malaysian citizen his worth, that he is more then just that speech he made before he won the election. The victor made by PKR clear states that Malaysian can do everything possible. Simply voicing out to the best Representative to the Parliament. Now day i don’t know if our Representative are there to take care of our need or for themselves? BN will NEVER have 2/3 majority. I’m sure they will have half majority next general election and hopeful they will have to bow down to Malaysia’s peoples request rather then their own. As they know that BN can’t conceal secret anymore. My question is Dr.M why haven’t done something for Malaysians rather then attending seminar or even opening a site or even giving talks. Improving they lifestyle can be a change for you own. 2010 is drawing near are we near to the vision you head for us 2020? If not, why not make it true? There is a saying lets not point a finger to anyone and do something about the developments or even lifestyle for better Malaysia. Don’t your think so Dr. M?
